It Takes a Village…
We’ve all heard the saying but it really does take a village to keep things functioning, in life and in small business!
While I love and support hundreds of Cleveland's small businesses, these 5 businesses and their owners help get me ready for my travels – and they are just all around great people! In support of this year's Small Business Saturday, here is my "village".

Ok, I might be biased but come on (if you drink alcohol) isn’t it nice to find something tasty to share among friends? And isn’t it especially nice to sip on something to celebrate the vacation you just booked? Doesn’t a great bottle of wine help you fight the blues once you’ve returned from that vacation? Answers: yes, yes and yes.
When it comes to wine (or travel!), you definitely don’t want to put your choice down to guess work – you want someone who listens to you, assesses your needs and then recommends the perfect product for you – the team at Highland Hops & Vines has you covered for beer and wine.
It is no secret – I love my cat, a LOT but I often have to leave him alone for a couple of nights at a time and I’m really picky about who takes care of him. When my long-time pet sitter moved away, I turned to Cuddles & Care Pet Sitting.
The team is trustworthy, attentive and they all have a passion for animal care – even those who bite (embarrassing!). We love getting updates and pictures from our sitters while we are out of town and crack up over the notes they writes about all the things our kitty friend did during our absence.
Cuddles & Care recently expanded to the downtown vicinity and they cover everything West, too!
One of my oldest and craftiest friends is Lauren Howie, owner of Well Traveled, a Cleveland-based business creating handmade travel accessories. Lauren was probably the only person I knew in college who actually had access to a sewing machine and since then, she hasn’t stopped perfecting her skills. She gifted me a travel bag right before my wedding in 2016 and it was the perfect size, shape and material. Since then, my travel bag has been on every vacation, business trip and overnight I’ve had and no matter how many makeup or skincare items I have, it still fits everything in – I swear it is the Mary Poppins bag of makeup bags!
I’ve posted a couple of times before about my magic hangover cure and that came courtesy of my friend Jordan who is an Arbonne Consultant/supermom hustler. Arbonne is a European skincare, nutrition and cosmetics company that uses natural ingredients and I’ve found some great products for travel by attending her parties. In addition to the hangover cure (which technically is supposed to hydrate you during workouts), I like the supplements and the yummy smelling body butter.
If you host or attend a party, you’ll get to test out a ton of products and learn about the benefits of natural ingredients – plus Jordan might even make you some of her famous pepperoni balls!
So, this isn't one small business but if you haven't visited the businesses that make up the Hingetown and Detroit Shoreway area of Cleveland, what are you waiting for?!
